 Grass

All about residential soil.

Soil types vary with geography, morphology, and environmental conditions. Soil care will depend on the soil type already present, your intention for using it, and factors that influence your soil’s health such as crop rotation or owning pets and other animals. There are two soil layers – the topsoil and the subsoil. The upper section usually contains more organic material, roots, animals, air, and nutrients than the second section, which is often denser and less nutritious..

Good quality soil will be dark and crumbly, allowing the combination of nutrients, air, and water in the mixture to absorb the plant roots, which feed our flower, fruit, and vegetable gardens. The combination of these elements dictates the pH of the soil as well.
